3-1: Castilla round off 2014 at the Di Stéfano with terrific win

Castilla picked up three crucial points in their quest for the promotion play-off places after beating Real Sociedad B in their final home match of 2014. The Whites took an early lead, but then had to overcome an injury to Jaime, the sending-off of Medrán and an equaliser from the visitors to seal their eighth victory, with two fantastic strikes from Raúl de Tomás and Javi Muñoz.

The home side hosted an outfit on the up, Real Sociedad B coming into the clash on the back of five matchdays without defeat. An awkward opponent on its travels. However, Castilla - who started with an unchanged eleven for the first time this season - were at their best during an impressive first-half performance.

The Whites on top in the first half
The fans had barely settled into their seats at the Di Stéfano when Lucas Torró made it 1-0 after three minutes. The midfielder took full advantage as the ball recounded to him via Elustondo, beating the guests' goalkeeper from just outside of the area with a powerfully-hit drive just inside the post.

After the goal, Real Sociedad B looked to impose themselves but came up against a Castilla side that was very solid in defence and whose pressing smothered their opponents' attempts to play the ball out. Raúl de Tomás had an excellent chance to score the second on 32' after great interplay with Noblejas and Burgui, the forward's far-post effort denied by a great save from Ander.

In the opening period of the second half, the hosts ran into difficulties with the injury to Jaime on 51' and the straight red card shown to Medrán after 63', following a 50-50 aerial challenge with Callens in which the Madrid man was adjudged to have struck his rival with an elbow. With Castilla down to ten men, the away side began to create openings and, after several warnings from Iker Hernández, the Real Sociedad B player took advantage as the Whites' defence lost concentration on a free-kick to equalise after 70'.

Three magic minutes
Just when things were looking at their worst for Castilla, they dealt a decisive blow with two fantastic goals on 71' and 74'. A minute after the San Sebastian outfit's leveller, De Tomás got in behind the defence, brought down a long pass from Noblejas and made it 2-1 with a majestic lob over the onrushing Ander.

And, with scarcely enough time for the second to sink in, Javi Muñoz settled the match three minutes later with a right-footed thunderbolt from more than 20 metres, which gave the visitors' keeper no chance. Another spectacular effort to cap an excellent display from Real Madrid's reserves.
